The Venezuelan government said a US Navy warship stopped a Venezuelan tuna fishing boat in the Caribbean. The ship, called the USS Jason Dunham, kept the boat and its nine fishermen for about eight hours.
Venezuela said this happened inside its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), an area of the sea that belongs to the country for fishing and resources. The government called the action illegal and hostile.
The Venezuelan foreign minister, Yván Gil, said the United States should stop these operations, because they put peace and safety in the region at risk.
The United States has not given details about the incident. But the event has increased tension between the two countries, which already have difficult relations.
